SL3 Design
SmartLink-III™ Design Philosophy

DPI LABS, Inc. World Leaders in Cabin Management Systems, Centralized Cabin Control, Cockpit Aesthetics and In Flight Audio Visual Entertainment brings you the new highly flexible SmartLink III Cabin Management Control System. The SmartLink family of products integrate seamlessly into the cabin and is truly unique in function, style and class.
SmartLink-III is the latest evolution of our system architecture for integrated cabin management. SmartLink-III is a completely proprietary system developed by DPI Labs in response to the unique requirements of the corporate and private aviation market. SmartLink-III is based on a RS-485 digital data buss and offers unparalleled performance and flexibility. Due to its compact and tightly integrated electronics packaging, SL-III offers a very low installed weight while still providing high reliability and maximum adaptability to the largely custom requirements of corporate aviation aircraft. SmartLink-III sets new technological standards and supports the flexibility required for simple or complex system integration’s as well as easily accommodating future changes that can occur during service life of an aircraft.
Every component in a SmartLink-III system is a “smart part” and contains its own microprocessor controls. These embedded control modules, which continually perform self-diagnostics, ensure a cabin management system with high reliability. Typical data buss systems have a single, centralized CPU module controlling the entire system, and should this module fail, the entire system fails. With the SmartLink-III distributed logic design, a system wide outage caused by a “single-point” failure cannot occur. Every device on the SmartLink-III buss will automatically and physically remove itself from the data buss in the event of a failure. This style of architecture prevents a single, malfunctioning module or component from loading or corrupting the data buss, and hence, the entire cabin management system. Every switch panel on SL-III has its own remote electronics module, and will retain all local functions in the event of a buss failure. Other SmartLink-III features include a robust “Watchdog Circuit” and an Anti-Collision Code protocol.
The wiring for SmartLink-III is a very simple single data line buss for the cabin with every component connected via a “T” junction. This type of connection allows the flexibility of creating a standardized harness with pre-installed “T’s” to accommodate most of the possible panel and component locations, whether standard or optional. This data line buss, using a twisted , shielded wire pair, provides the means by which all components communicate. The data buss allows easy handling of complex functions with multiple location controls, which are accomplished without any additional wiring. The DPI Labs SmartLink-III anti-collision code is a proprietary development to handle simultaneous commands in the system so that all commands are processed correctly without any delayed, lost, or unintended commands.

Panel
20000 Series Switches and Switch Panel

The DPI Labs 20,000 Series of Switches and Switch Panels, simply stated, is the reference by which all other switches and switch panels are measured. They provide the ultimate in reliability, flexibility, and quality taken deeper than ever before. Tested and proven to operate reliably over 3 million operations, every switch and switch panel masterfully combines the artistry and elegance of custom, fine jewelry, with the benefits of advanced technology. Activation of the switch is consistent across the face of the whole keypad. All the face surfaces, including the keypad, are metal, and can be finished in a wide variety of combinations to match personal preferences. The switches and light plate are individually backlit to provide maximum flexibility with color selection and ease of viewing. Using an additional SmartLink-III™ module, backlighting brightness can be set to automatically adjust to the ambient light level of the cabin. The 20,000 Series Switching System: Advanced technology that integrates switches, displays, bar graphs, audio jacks, and other cabin management functions into a tastefully presented, functional design.

  • Switches are responsive & positive when pressed

  • Astonishingly clean & elegant styling

  • Fully backlit switches & panel graphics

  • Integrates seamlessly with our SmartLink-III™ Cabin Management System

  • Panels use SmartPack™ Remote electronics modules to tie into SmartLink-III

Product Overview
SmartPack™ and Control Modules

The SP67 SmartPack™ connects any DPI Labs remote switch panel into the SmartLink-III™ Cabin Management System. The SP67’s (3) relays and (2) discrete inputs can be used to control a wide variety of local relay functions. Local relay control is not limited to the switch panels connected directly to the SmartPack™; Other remote panels on the aircraft can be configured to access the same relays – no extra wiring required! Due to its compact design, a SmartPack™ can be located very close to the loads it controls, keeping harness weight low and wire runs short, a big plus in the tight confines of today’s corporate aircraft. An added benefit of the SP67 is its Pulse-Width-Modulation capability, used to offer dimming functions for local reading and table lights. The unique redundancy design of the module keeps all local functions online in the event of a bus failure. With the SP67’s firmware download capability, local switch panel controls can be quickly reconfigured, making your customers happy and future expansion of your cabin management system easier than ever before.
